the next release on rinse is the second in a series of three eps of gorgeous, punch-drunk house music from label regular rupert taylor, aka xxxy. the follow-up to last years acclaimed 18 hours, it is a further spiral inwards for the tripped-out, wistful style he has increasingly come to make distinctly his own, with clouds of arpeggiated synth notes and vapourised voice rolling atop pillow-soft, droning bass.

this february nightdrivers deliver three first-rate cuts on holic trax for the quando party dove vai ? ep. following on from burnski s the hours ep which saw love from names like mr g, catz n dogz, dam swindle and eats everything, holic trax returns this february with nightdrivers quando party dove vai ? . since delivering their debut release on bosconi records back in 2013 the berlin-based duo nightdrivers have been going from strength to strength stacking up further releases on claap, their own nightdrivers label and now holic trax. to get things underway the light pads of resta pure dove sei give the opening track a floaty quality while the weighty percussion and subtle rhythms build proceedings into a steady and infectious groove. nightdrivers appear to go up a gear as the ep progresses with the rippling drums and dynamic arrangements of la ronde suite (but not for me) while fast cars maintains the lively vibe of its predecessor and frenetically bubbles along over busy modulations, wacky intonations and infectious licks to dish up a suitably punchy close to this bouncy ep.

hlanganani music is a new label with its roots in south africa and london, focused on bringing international attention to south african artists. hlanganani music, which translates from zulu as come/get together has its first release from zulu artist butiza. entitled baphuma ezulwini (they came from heaven) the track features vocals from butiza in the style of maskanda (or maskandi-a kind of zulu folk and scathamiya as well as remixes from european mainstays, xdb and christian prommer. the project itself best illuminated by hlanganani label heads and south african expats shy & linda aka sahin meyer with the label the goal is to really help all the artists involved and open new doors on both ends. support by: mr g, jimpster, mano le tough, steve o sullivan, dam swindle, auntie flo, ooft, severino, cottam, lo shea, a sagittariun, drums of death, trickski & more.

ltd nice price action !! >give it to me hot< is a 4-track ep that pays tribute to one of the hottest, raunchiest (but sadly short-lived) funk/punk groups from the early 80s, sexual harrassment.
sexual harrassment was started by radio dj lynn tolliver whilst he was working at mca records, and the cleveland-based group had a gold single on the heat/montage label. their rarer 6-track album from 1983 has become a collectors item. to do their tracks justice, we asked modern day artists who are synonymous with a sex-driven funk attitude to either cover or reinterpret the originals.

o jays road manager, don king prison chauffeur, window washer, house painter, ink spot, domino, producer, engineer, label owner, guitorgan technician, and one-time steward of a coveted jet magazine delivery route, lou ragland is cleveland s eastside success story. though suffocated by lake eries nitrate rich waters and the burning oil from a cuyahoga river fire, between 1967-1977 lou ragland produced the most thoughtful, hopeful, and downright soulful work to come out of the forest city. bookended by his dynamic albums hot chocolate and understand each other, i travel alone gathers period singles, collaborations, and an unreleased live album cut in 1973, revealing a cleveland genius in a musical microcosm of fearless and confident creation.

while cultivating a reputation as one of las most exciting dj duos at parties like the legendary do-over and dam funks funkmophere, cosmic kids started working in the studio, completing remixes for friends like harvard bass. but it was their first original tune that landed them on throne of blood, backed by absolutely tremendous remixes from dear friends juan maclean, classixx and labelmates bicep.
